(Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean) Celebrate World Reef Awareness Day on Thursday, June 1st at ReeFiesta 2023! This is an island-wide, all-day event hosted by Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire (RRFB) in collaboration with 13 partner dive shops. Marking the start of World Oceans Month, World Reef Awareness Day is a chance to recognize the importance of healthy coral reefs and the need for protection and restoration efforts around the world.
“Protecting and restoring our dynamic reefs here on Bonaire takes all of us. The goal of ReeFiesta is to get more of our community involved in coral restoration and give everyone the opportunity to make a positive impact on our reefs!”
– Ernst Noyons, Reef Restoration Technician – Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire
ReeFiesta is a unique opportunity for divers of any skill level to have hands-on coral restoration experience and non-divers to see our nursery and restoration sites up close. After an educational presentation and training session, RRFB staff and dive instructors will lead a guided snorkel tour and synchronized shore dives across 7 coral nursery sites around Bonaire. Participants will reconvene for an evening celebration on the Buddy Dive beach, where snacks and drinks will be provided.
ReeFiesta 2023 is hosted by RRFB in partnership with AB-Dive, Beyond the Corals, Buddy Dive, DIVI Dive, Flamingo Diving, Harbour Village, Technical Diving Services, Toucan Diving, Tropical Divers, VIP Diving, Wannadive, Xprodiver, and 4 Wheel Diving.
Thank you to Official Sponsors World Wildlife Fund, Ocean Oasis Beach Club, and Orco Bank for making this event possible!
RRFB is committed to limiting the spread of Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD) throughout Bonaire’s reefs and will require all participants to follow proper gear disinfection protocol by STINAPA.
In an effort to make coral restoration as accessible as possible and encourage new coral lovers to get involved in restoration efforts, the event is completely FREE for all attendees. Registration via the webpage linked below opens Monday May 15th and will close on Monday May 29th or when event capacity is reached. Spots are limited – so sign up now!

About Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire
Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire’s (RRFB) mission is to help protect, replenish, and restore the biodiverse coral reefs of Bonaire. We focus on implementing innovative, science-based programs that expand and strengthen populations of keystone coral reef species. We do this so that the reefs of Bonaire can gain the necessary scale, genetic diversity, and resilience to thrive today and in the uncertain, ever-changing conditions of the future. Today, with the help of 13 partner diveshops around the island and a dedicated team of volunteers, Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire has outplanted over 50,000 corals back to the reef.
