Join Us in the Water

Do you have a passion for keeping our ocean colorful and full of life? Have you ever wanted to make a lasting difference in the health of our gorgeous coral reefs?

Corals reefs are responsible for providing unique experiences each time you dive, but they need our help. Due to climate change, disease, predation, pollution, and many other factors, coral reefs are dying. Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire recognizes this and wants people like you to join our team of volunteers.

We are always thrilled to welcome new coral lovers!

To become a volunteer and get involved, divers need to complete a 1.5 - 2 day training course and attend a RRFB educational presentation in order to gain the PADI Reef Renewal Diver Distinctive Specialty certification. To sign up for the training course, please contact one of the five participating dive shops: Buddy Dive, Wanna Dive, Gooodive, Harbor Village, and Tropical Divers. After completing their training, volunteer divers will be able to assist Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire staff in the coral nurseries, help with maintenance activities, and outplant corals to restoration sites around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire. Dive volunteers are notified on a weekly basis about opportunities available for scheduled volunteer dives in our nurseries and restoration sites. Each week has new opportunities for volunteers to gain an unmatched experience!

To become a volunteer, the following are required:

  • Open Water Certification
  • PADI Reef Renewal Diver distinctive certification
  • Dive insurance
  • Dive gear (tanks will be provided)

Thank you for your consideration of donating your time to lend us a hand!

Happy, hard-working volunteers are the reason why RRFB thrives and can make an impact. Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire volunteers include participants from local diving communities to annual visitors. We love seeing new faces join our group of volunteers, and we especially love seeing those faces often. The best way to experience being a Reef Renewal Diver is to be on the island for multiple weeks or return to the island. The more you dive with us, the more tasks you get to do, and the more fun you have making a difference in our reef. It all starts with the first dive, though, so even if you’re here for one week, we encourage you to come check us out. We’d love for you to volunteer with us!
